Nightmarium is a highly magic-supressive metal We discovered. As most life forms in Equestria are reliant on magic for their basic biological processes, it is highly poisonous. Prolonged contact can cause serious illness, and ingestion is generally fatal.
Alicorns are susceptible to nightmarium poisoning, but to a lesser extent. It is unlikely even eating a brick of pure, refined nightmarium would kill an alicorn, but it would make them extremely ill.
