Well, over a thousand years ago, We were a bit hungry, and this one young filly named Godiva offered Us some chocolate in exchange for fixing an indecent exposure charge (back then, fillies wandering about with their fetlocks unshorn was quite the scandal).
Somehow the story got around that We were willing to forgive ponies who gave Us candy, and over the years that developed into the modern Nightmare Night Candy Offering.
