Twoey’s eyes narrow into a glare. He had hoped that SOMEHOW she had forgotten about that. “I was. It was very hard getting the remains on the ceilings, but I did it.”

Arcelia shakes a bit, knew it already in her mind, but hearing it confirmed still hurt.

*Arbor finally works up the courage to come out of the kitchen*

Not sure if you can justify blaming Twoey for it, considering you highjacked the ability to command him from Arcelia and ordered him to do it.

*Arbor snorts. As the hit to his nose was severe and he still hasn’t had a chance to properly heal it, a small trickle of blood flows from his nose*

Nightmare Moon shakes her head, grinning slightly.

“We don’t have the slightest idea what you’re talking about. We do not have any sort of control over Arcelia’s pet. Tell Us, if We had control over it, why would it still be capable of insulting Us? Surely, We would have commanded it not to do so. You know how easily Our feelings are hurt.”

OOC: On the ranks and organisational structure of Nightmare Moon’s military

Nightmare Moon’s military consists of two primary branches, namely the Royal Guard (the regular army), and the Home Army (the militia). In addition, the ‘Special Projects Division’ operates its own military forces independent of the others, under Nightmare Moon’s direct command.

For this article, I’m going to focus on the structure of the Royal Guard (specifically the infantry. Pegasi or mechanised units use the same ranks, but different deployment structures). The militia is much less rigorously structured (with individual units inventing their own ranks and structures subservient to the Royal Guard’s), and the Special Projects Division’s forces are organised and deployed only on an as-needed basis.

Ranks in the Royal Guard, from lowest to highest:

E-1: Cadet Trooper

E-2: Trooper

E-3: Lance Sergeant

E-4: Master Sergeant

O-0: Third Lieutenant (Supernumerary rank)

O-1: Second Lieutenant

O-2: First Lieutenant

O-3: Captain

O-4: Captain-Commandant

O-5: Colonel

O-6: Battlegroup Marshal

O-7: Grand Marshal of the Guard

As for structure, the basic unit in the Royal Guard is the lance. A lance consists of three soldiers, and will typically have at least one guardspony of rank E-3 or higher.

Lances are typically deployed in groups of four, forming a squad. This is, typically, the minimum force the Royal Guard will deploy.

On the other side, the largest unit employed by the Royal Guard is the battlegroup. A battlegroup consists of approximately one thousand lances, plus assorted command and support personnel. In reality, this unit only exists on paper, since all of Nightmare Moon’s regulars combined would barely form one battlegroup.

the-shady-bacon asked: Thanks. The guy called himself the "The Italian Stallion". Real original. He had a Manehatten accent and said he'd be back to my shop tomorrow for the money.

All right.

*Nightmare Moon quickly writes up a document, signs and seals it, then hands it over to Starbuck.*

Since you, as of yet, have no knights under your command, I have written up orders temporarily designating you a temporary third lieutenant of the Royal Guard. This gives you just enough rank to place you in their chain of command. Take a squad of them, and post them in plainclothes around your shop, with orders to detain this ‘Italian Stallion’ when you signal them.

Once he has been arrested, have him brought to Us. With any luck, We will be able to use him to break the rest of his operation.

Twoey’s face goes completely neutral, though it is almost an annoyed neutrality.

“Of course you do not, I’m just randomly blabbering on about orders which has no bearing on this situation at all.” He looks back at Arcelia, “I am not being controlled by Nightmare Moon and would never give that impression, in case you were starting to think that.”

At this point Twoey is just being an ass, playing fast and loose with the poorly worded commands Nightmare has given him up to this point.

*Arbor, having heard speaking in the other room from the kitchen, pokes his head into the room*

*Upon seeing Nightmare, he turns white and pulls his head back out of the room*

Nightmare Moon turns and glares at Arbor momentarily for his not-being-beaten-ness, then turns back to Twoey.

“Of course you aren’t. If you were, We wouldn’t have to ask this question. Were you responsible for the murders that occurred in Canterlot some days ago? The ones the hysterical newspapers claimed were the work of a ‘death cult’?”

(via arbor-viridanus)

the-shady-bacon asked: Hey, Nightmare! Some guys shot up my shop for protection money. Can I borrow some guards?

Of course.

In fact, if you can identify the ponies that have been bothering you, We will take care of the problem Ourselves. Unlike Celestia’s limp-pasterned judicial system, We have a zero-tolerance policy for unauthorised organised crime within Our domain.

((ooc: Sorry for the delay, I didn’t realise you had reblogged this.))

Nightmare Moon blinks in surprise.

“What.”

This turn of events has taken her totally and utterly by surprise. She’s too shocked to even by angry.

The Wraith continues to grin, quite happy with himself for once, though pretty sure he is going to be destroyed.

“When ordering something that hates you, it is important to make sure you either word your orders incredibly carefully, or make sure the one you are controlling is compelled to follow them as you intended, otherwise certain… liberties may be taken with given commands. Drill Sergeants and School Teachers are both quite aware of this. Though why that lesson would pertain to this situation I have no idea.”

Watching worriedly, she doesn’t even know what is going on now.

It finally dawns on Nightmare Moon that something has gone horribly, horribly wrong with her plans. Somehow, the wraith has broken free from her control. By now, it has surely told Arcelia everything.

Hastily, she formulates a plan. Not her best, but clever, given the circumstances. Regaining her composure, she responds to the wraith’s taunts.

“We have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Arcelia shakes a bit in fear, hiding behind the couch again, forgetting for a moment that this is what they were waiting for.

Upon seeing the anger apparent on Nightmare’s face and hearing her words to him Twoey’s angry scowl disappears and is replaced with a self-satisfied grin. He looks her straight in the eyes.

“You are the biggest idiot I have ever had the misfortune of having to encounter.”
